What I'm Writing This Month

Mar 15, 2016

I think I'll wait until the end of the month to do an official wrap-up, but I just wanted to pop-in with an update. This month has been quite rocky for me in terms of writing. There was a point where I got so down about the story I'm working on that I vowed never to look at it again. Of course, that didn't happen.

What did happen was that I sat down and reworked the opening which bugged me. And you know what, after rereading a few chapters I realized it wasn't that bad. Self-doubt is such a trickster, and I let it deter me. I recognize now I need to find a better way to deal with the doubt. Now that I'm back on the saddle, I feel much more confident and a lot more excited about the projects I'm currently working on.

Here's what I'm working on now:

MY MAIN PROJECT: AUGUSTINE

This was the project that I felt down about. I've been working on it since the beginning of the year. I'm a little over 20k into it now. It's slow going, but my new found passion for it will ensure that I make it to the end. I hope. It's contemporary with some thriller elements and was originally inspired by one of my favorite movies. Like with all of my projects, I'm learning a great deal while I write it. My biggest lesson, as I talked about above, was not letting my doubt distract me from the end goal--a sparkly new manuscript.

MY SIDE PROJECT: BEAUTY MOST RUINED

I've always wanted to write a fairy tale retelling, and since one of my favorite fairy tales is Beauty and the Beast it was only natural I'd want to retell it. So far, I've written only one thousand works. I don't want to say too much about it yet, but it was hugely inspired by my favorite TV shows Supernatural. I'm looking forward to getting to know my characters and delving into their world.

ON THE BACK-BURNER: A MAGICAL MISFORTUNE

I still haven't gotten around to editing my 2015 NaNo novel. I don't think I'll be getting to it soon either. It's one of those projects that was a bit experimental for me, so I'm not sure how I feel about it. There are parts of it I love of course, but I'm not sure it's a story I want to move forward with. Only time will tell.

That's it for me. What have you been working on?
