NaNoWriMo 2014

Oct 20, 2014
It's been a while since my last post. I wish I had a decent excuse, but I've been around. Here and there and on Tumblr mostly. I'm sorry if anyone was wondering where this blog had gone. Today, I'm reviving this old blog with my official NaNo Post. I've yet to win NaNoWriMo, but I love coming up with new ideas. The excitement of it is too alluring for me to sit out. This year I'm writing a middle grade contemporary called THE WASTELANDS.

Here's the synopsis:

What if a lonely twelve-year-old girl became the ruler of her own kingdom?

Twelve-year-old Elliot Jones loves history and RPG. When her parents are at work she spends her time on the message boards or reading up about regency life. However, her parents are away a lot and she does get lonely. Tragedy strikes at home when her best friend, her grandmother, suddenly passes away. Now, Elliot feels like she has no one to talk to who isn’t in a history book or on the Web. The kids in her neighborhood think she’s too different to hang out with. They call her all sorts of names. So Elliot takes refuge in her favorite place in the world, the woods behind her house. In the woods, she pretends to be the ruler of a great kingdom called The Wastelands. There she is loved by all. One day, while exploring, she comes across an old abandoned tree house—her own castle. In an attempt to make friends, she shows it to her next door neighbor, who tells his neighbor, who tells his neighbor. There’s only one rule to playing in the tree house, in The Wastelands, Elliot calls the shots. But as her social circle expands, and her kingdom grows, Elliot realizes that ruling isn’t as simple as her history books. And her crown has gotten too small for her head.

I'm excited you guys. I hope I can have my WiP finished by the end of the month, so I can get started on this. The RPG element was inspired by Supernatural, Larp and the Real Girl. The title is a nod to my favorite anime, Howl's Moving Castle. I'll probably change it once I think of a better one.

Are you doing NaNo? What are you writing?
